Does Dropbox support 5 Gbps sync (uploads and dowload) speeds?
I am a professor a University of Florida (UF). We have a business Dropbox account through UF (I cannot use this community with that account for some reasons, so I am writing from my private one). I work often from home. All my data and my students' data (Many GBs and TBs) is constantly synced with Dropbox. Fiber was just installed in my neighborhood, and I am debating between 1Gbps and 5Gbps speed. The latter is 50% more expensive, but I would pay for it if Dropbox is able to handle Gbps uploads and dowload speeds. If not, there is not really much of a point, 1 Gbps is more than enough for all the other things I do.
Thank you
Best

Hi there, venexiano, welcome to our Community!
Let's start with some additional info that I'm going to need. I'm assuming you're referring to our desktop app, right?
If not, feel free to correct me.
If we're on the same page, and you're talking about the app then keep in mind that Dropbox can only upload and download as fast as your Internet service provider (ISP) allows. Consumer ISP's normally provide 1/10th the upload speed compared to download speed.
The Dropbox servers do not set caps on the upload or download speeds from the Desktop client, but file sync is a complicated process that includes more than just the transfer of the data. Please keep in mind each file is divided and compressed into hashed components, transferred via secure data transfer, and then encrypted and stored on our servers. During an upload, the transfer speeds are also dependent upon how quickly your computer can process and compress the components of the files to make them available for upload.
However, the more you use Dropbox the more efficient syncing becomes.
If you have any questions, by all means let me know.
