Dropbox shared folder to an external drive
Can an Admin see if a file was copied or downloaded from a Dropbox shared folder to an external drive, outside of Dropbox?

Hi nameless, thanks for messaging the Community!
Are they part of a Dropbox Business team or is it a personal account with a shared folder?
Do you have the Dropbox desktop application installed, or are you downloading the files directly from the site?
This will help me to assist further!

Jay,
Could you answer the question with regard to each of the scenarios you've outlined? Perhaps that's four different answers?
Thank you!

Hey nameless, Jay is asking if this person is a member of a Dropbox Business team, because depending on the team plan, the team admin has access to certain info about member activity, whereas the info you're inquiring about, is not available to individual users.

Thank you, Hannah!
To summarize, an Admin cannot see if a file was copied or downloaded from a Dropbox shared folder to an external drive, outside of Dropbox, with Dropbox individual plan desktop app and Dropbox individual plan online.
With Dropbox Business, we are still waiting for an answer. I look forward to hearing more about Dropbox Business.

Not a problem, nameless!
When it comes to Dropbox Business, if you are the admin of an Advanced or Enterprise team, you can view all file-related actions on your team.
File-level activity includes adding, editing, moving, downloading, deleting files, etc.
File-level activity is currently not available to Dropbox Business Standard admins.
If you'd like to know more about Dropbox Business, you can take a look at this page, where you should also be able to chat with a Sales representative for any additional questions you may have.
