Error downloading folder through web client
I'm trying to download a large folder through the web client. After I click download I'm prompted to save a small file called unspecified.htm, which saves and then nothing else happens. I'm sure I've used this feature successfully before. Any idea what's happening?
I've tried both download methods - click the folder and click download at the top, and right click. I can download individual files successfully.
Tried Mozilla Firefox & Chrome, Windows 10.
You cannot download over 1gb of data via the browser. You have to download the Dropbox "application".

And why won't it give a message to the effect that I can't download it instead of having to go this forum and find the answer. If a download limit is in effect that why won't it tell me when I try to download?

I found also some way for bigger files: I make directory in dropbox "download" and activate sync for this folder. Then I copy files which I want to download into "synced download" directory and after some times they are on my computer in folder Drobox / Download. After use I delete directory with files. It is also usable if you have versioning of files (copy file, put in later version and sync with comp).
All services (servers backup, sync comp. to dropbox etc ) are with no limitation to dropbox and browzer download system is limited (restoring of big backups are mostly broken back to the server, too). Seems policy is to grab much as goes and put to dropbox (to higher bills) and limit download lines. But it seems they cant limit their own sync system to customer because then service fail (you get files from friend and have to sync with your account).
Do anyone know better service as dropobox where bigger downloads works? For personal files is dropobox fine, but I would migrate backups to other, more "downloads trustable" service... thanks

Great. Now I know why, but I wonder. Why the hell it doesn't display a descritive error? Are db developers this dumb or is just plain negligence?
- Info M.19 years agoExplorer | Level 4I suppose 2 possible cause: regarding customers pressing if they "announce" error or usage limitation and for full service you simply need comp with dropbox instalation. User cant simply transfer files over the net - you have to download it or push it to another dropbox account. And this is double money for 1 file. And limitation hold users inside their ecosystem because they cant simply migrate to another cloud competitor. Not very fair but I dont know for now any better.

If you need "secure" storage, there are better options on the market, especially those that employ "zero-knowledge" encryption, which might suit your use case better...

Hi Benjamin
As previously posted in this same thread, the limits are 1GB in size or 10,000 files.
Is it possible this limit size limit has reduced further? I am attempting download of a 380Mb folder using the web client and it is not working for me - download appears to terminate after 100-150Kb...

Hi Stephen, can you advice some? I would divide risk between more of them.. Best would be if I can share dorpbox to them :-)

I don't have a personal recommendation, however googling "secure cloud storage" will list many options.
In particular I found this article informative.
Given that the alternatives are competitors of dropbox, I think you are unlikely to find strong dropbox integration as a feature with most of them.

Hmm... on the end seems the best is idependend win/linux server in the cloud wich is internmediate part between backup providers..?
