Backing up to External HDD - Causing issues if disconnected

Hi all,

I back up my dropbox to an external HDD which is handy for me as has much larger storage than my Macbook.

However, if my HDD is accidentally knocked out the port, it triggers a mass deletion email to the team saying i have deleted 1,000's of files.

It doesn't seem to delete anything, but it then seems to trigger conflicted-copys of some of the files (not sure why).

Obviously i go out of my way to ensure the HDD is always plugged in but it is very annoying that if it becomes disconnected for any reason this happens.

Is there a way i can stop this happening?

Thanks,

Jon

Hi Jon_Buzz, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Currently, there isn't any way to prevent this, since external drives aren't recommended to store your Dropbox folder for this reason.

There are also other ways that external drives can cause deletions from your account.

If you have any further queries, feel free to message back.
