Dragged plan files into Dropbox, also got file marked copies how do I delete copies?

Good day created a dropbox  with intent to send plans to subcontractors, dragged some plan files into dropbox, somehow also have files marked copies, when i go to delete these "copy file" get a message ... file will be deleted across all devises; the copy file delete would be great, i want to confirm the delete will not also delete the original plan file. And thge delete will not extend to other users, with the file?

Hi Plan, welcome to our Community!

Just to make sure we're on the same page: it sounds like you used the desktop app in order to drag some files into Dropbox, right?

If not, don't hesitate to clarify. I didn't entirely grasp the "file marked copies". I'm assuming these copies exist inside your Dropbox account. What about the original plan file?

Is it also inside your Dropbox account, or locally on the device? Have you shared the files with the other users?

Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

To solve my problem, i created multiple folders to support varied scopes of work, so i used the files marked copies in the new folders; so no more plans marked copy,

    Good day,

I have been getting emails from the recipients saying they are having trouble opening the files, time is of the essence, in that i have a bid date i am trying to acheive.

Years ago i deleted files from a folder which then deleted files from other users folders and was a mess, so my concern was if i deleted these files marked as copies of other files in the folder, would i then be deleting the original file as well as the copy?

Also i noted a couple of the files in the folder were marked as short cut, would a short cut file be able to be read and pulled as required a document to be read and used by others?

Hi Plan, the message you saw refers to the file being deleted from the Dropbox account, and all connected devices. It doesn't mean it'll delete the original version of the file you copied it from, nor will it delete files outside of the Dropbox folder.

Regarding shortcut files, they most likely will not work when synced, since shortcuts are machine-dependent, and refer to a specific location on one computer, which won't be the same on another computer.
