Dropbox wiped out my recent Documents, after reinstalling the app on my Windows computer

So a while back I installed Dropbox for my PC, I ended up deleting it (I deleted the dropbox thing under Downloads; I'm on Windows by the way), and I didn't realize it stopped syncing to my PC all the files, but I didn't really mind. Then today, I got a notification from Dropbox that it wasn't syncing anymore. I thought that maybe I should re-install it, so I did, and I did the relink option, but now all my original files under 'Documents' are missing, and replaced with some old files I uploaded to Dropbox a while back.

Is there a way to get my files back?

Welcome aboard our Community, Marc0_! Hope you’re doing great.

So, from what I understand, you had previously enabled computer backup on your desktop app, and then uninstalled Dropbox altogether from your device. Correct?

Are you seeing your previous “Documents” files, if you visit your Backups page online?

I’d also like to know the syncing status and app version of your current Dropbox app.

    Keep me posted.

    Hey,

So the previous Documents files are in my backups page online.

I believe I enabled computer backup on my desktop, yeah.

Hey Marc0_, sorry to jump in here.

Do you wish to continue using the Dropbox application?

If you don't, and all you want to do is access your Documents files, if you can see them in your backups page, you can simply download them from there and place them in your Documents folder for easy access.

At this point, I only want my old Documents files back, even if it means using/not using Dropbox. I looked on the backups page, and I can't find my files. The files that are on my backups page are some that I uploaded many months ago.

Hi again, Marc0_. Do you remember any of the names of the original files you had in the Documents folder on your computer?

If yes, I’d like you to perform a search on your device and see if they can be found somewhere else on your hard drive. Please also make sure to check the Recycle bin of your computer.
