Entered data lost upon logging in

Hi Dropbox Community,

I'd love for the data I've entered into a Dropbox document to be saved without having to log in. Currently, it is always lost upon logging in as my colleagues and I can often forget our passwords. This then takes us to another screen losing the data. Consider not allowing the editing of documents until we have logged in so we do not lose data, or allow downloads of edited documents without logging in. The lost productivity here costs a lot (for us it's approx. $60 per hour, per user) and I recommend to the community to download the document and edit out of the platform currently. We'll review Dropbox features next financial year to see if improvements have been made.

Please make the platform more accessible.

Hi there DBoxFeedbackGiver - thanks for sharing your thoughts on this with us.

Just to make sure, could you clarify if you're using a team account or individual ones and how exactly you're editing your files?

    Thanks so much!

    Hi Walter,

It happens prior to a person logged in to a team or individual account wanting to add text, highlight or otherwise make a change to a PDF of which they have access. Sometimes this is staff, and more often this could be a client of the business. Typically, they want to edit or highlight the PDF before downloading their changes. It can take anywhere from a few minutes to ~45 minutes to make the changes they want. Clients, for example, will not necessarily have a DropBox account, or rarely use it, and they can make these changes but cannot download their file with changes until logging in. Upon logging in, if they have forgotten their password, all changes they have made are lost, for example.

Changing the rules around being able to download the edited PDF without logging in, ensuring that no data is lost when trying to log in with a forgotten password, or, making sure the PDF cannot be edited or added to without logging in will resolve this broadly. We can also recommend to staff and clients to log in before editing as this solves the issue also, however, this makes it easier currently for us to ask them to edit it in their choice of editing program.

    Thanks!
