Files disappeared/deleted

Hi,

i lost some important files. i'm using dropbox with a basic account. My files are saved on my laptop and on dropbox.com and for comfortability i'm

using dropbox folder syncronization so that on my different computers the actualization works automatically. Now i remember that a few months ago

i got an email from dropbox telling me that there is not much space left, i remember a space of 300 MB. Some really important files are missing now at

dropbox and because of the syncronization as well on all my computers. So i suggest that Dropbox deleted some of my files because of reasons of

space. Does that make sence? And more important: is there any possibility to get these files back? I'm really thankful for any help.

Greetings

Thilo

Hey Thilo_Korn, sorry to hear about your missing files

For starters, note that Dropbox would never delete files on its own. If your account gets over its quota, syncing will stop and you won't be able to upload any new files until you bring your account under its quota limit.

That said, have you taken a look at your events page to see if you can find any of your files?

This is the place where all uploads, edits, and deletions are normally logged so it should give you a hint.

Let us know of any updates!

      Thank you Walter,

i checked the events, there appear many things but there is nothing listed about

the missing files. Is it possible that these files have been deleted when i stopped the dropbox connection of my notebook?

I thought it would be not possible because the files where saved on the hard disc of my desktop computer too...

I checked my computers with the program recuva and it cant find the missing files neither.

Do you have any ideas what i could do else?

      Thanks so much!

Hi Thilo_Korn, if you see nothing listed in the events page, then the chances are that the files never synced to our servers online.

You mentioned that the account didn't have enough space, so it sounds like this is the culprit there.

If that was the case, and in some rare instances, instead of the files syncing from the Dropbox folder, to the web, what happens is that the changes of your account online, sync locally to your Dropbox folder, and updates accordingly.

That sometimes might cause some deletions, if there's a discrepancy there.

However, you mentioned that the files were saved on the hard disc of your desktop too. It's rather odd that it's missing from there too, since Dropbox wouldn't have anything to do with your content there.
