Missing files
Hi guys
I have two DropBox accounts both free 2GB versions under different email addresses.
On logging into my accounts today I see that they are both empty and behaving like I am a new user.
In the past, I have done work for clients who have temporarily upgraded my account so we could share large files (I am a VFX artist).
In the personal 2GB sections of my account, I had a bunch of personal files. When the upgraded DropBox was removed or transferred that should not have affected my personal files.
So the question is how can I retrieve my old files.
The Bot is asking for payment details to access further information which I can not provide as I did not pay for any upgrades and there seems to be no way of contacting a human at support.
Thanks in advance and fingers crossed for a solution.
Richard

Hi there RichardDDF, sorry to hear about your missing files.
Can you please clarify how long has it been since you last logged into the accounts in question?
Do you see any signs of your files in your events page on either of the accounts?
This is the place where all uploads, edits, and deletions are normally logged so it should give you a hint.
Let me know and we'll take it from there, Richard.

Hi Support
Thanks for the quick reply.
I didn't see an events page associated with either of my accounts but I do when I click on the link you provided.
That only shows three events:RF You removed your access to the shared folder MagicNumbers_LNER 18/9/2023 22:12RF You joined the shared folder MagicNumbers_LNER 7/8/2023 11:14DU The computer Beast was linked to your account 7/8/2023 10:55I never removed access, that was done by someone else without my knowledge (I only found out today).
This account goes back till 2011.
My other account says there is no activity but I have had that account since 2013.
Please can you let me know how to proceede

Since this a shared folder it's possible that the owner of the shared folder removed you from the share RichardDDF
Were the files you were looking for inside that shared folder?

Hi Walter
I believe so however these were from my point of view archived files, important but not looked at frequently.
Also the owners are adamant that they did not delete the files. They did not inform me they were removing me from the share in the first place so they are not being particularly helpful in the first place. I don't want to start "blaming" them as I don't want to lose future work. - Walter2 years ago

Do you or the owner see the folder in your sharing tab to add it back to your account(s) RichardDDF?

Hi
No, sorry I don't see any files or folders in the sharing tab or anywhere else. - Hannah2 years ago

Sorry to jump in here, RichardDDF.
Is the "MagicNumbers_LNER" the folder that you're missing?
If so, since your events say that "you removed your access", one of three things has happened:
1) You did remove your own access (which you mentioned that you didn't)
2) The owner(creator) of the folder or a member with edit permissions removed you from it
3) The owner unshared the folder and every member got removed automatically
In any of these cases, you'll need to reach out to the person that shared the folder with you and ask them to re-invite you.
