"My Dropbox Files" folder was created on my iMac

Hey!

This is kinda suspicious. Dropbox did the thing where it made a "My Dropbox Files" on my iMac. I didn't love how full folders, including "Desktop" and "Documents" automatically saved on the cloud. I read a thread on here that said to download the Dropbox app and change the settings on where files are saved. When I downloaded Dropbox, it immediately deleted all my "my dropbox files" and I have no idea where they went or how to recover them. They're not on my computer (folders have ?uestion-marks) and they're not in Dropbox. No clue what to do or if there's a solution. Not really seeing anything online about this.

Hey matt77, thanks for reaching out to us.

Let's see what we can find out about this and resolve it for you.

If your Desktop and Documents folders were backed up to Dropbox, the Dropbox application would have already been installed on your computer; did you previously have it uninstalled?

And do you remember disabling the Dropbox backup feature before you uninstalled it?

What does the "My Dropbox files" folder include?

Let me know and we'll go from there.
