My files are missing
Hello community, I am writing this language absolutely friendly. I love Dropbox. Dropbox support team are amazing, thanks and kudos to each and every robot.
Could one of you with available bandwidth let me know what happened to all my files? They disappeared from dropbox. Can you believe it? Are you holding them behind a firewall, have you deleted them, did you move them, why are they not appearing in my inbox?
Is this meant as incentive to get me to upgrade?
I did get a veiled faintly cryptic email notification two weeks after I populated my dropbox to 2G that my files would "stop synching" if I did not UPGRADE. I was NEAR my storage limit not OVER - but no matter. I got the message (what does "stop synching" mean, exactly?) and now a month later? Files completely gone. If files are in dropbox, they are in, no? Like a hard drive, you've got your files there. They're yours, in your folder in your storage program, and it is really really hard to think something would go into the folder and DELETE.
But, I'm guessing that stop synching means erasing/deleting. Which if I chose to delete from original location before transfer to Dropbox? I guess (guessing again here) that means that the files are gone, deleted, removed, and that "stop synching" means "deleting".
Thanks in advance for your help! If there is any hope for my missing files, please let me know? Thank you community, in advance.

Hey ianh111, sorry to hear about your missing files.
Can you please have a look at your events page and let me know what you find? This is the place where all uploads, edits, and deletions are normally logged so it should give you a hint.
Keep us posted!

It isnt possible for Dropbox to delete files so, something locally has done it.
As long as you've noticed within your recovery window follow https://help.dropbox.com/delete-restore/recover-deleted-files-folders

OMG This is so ridiculous. I uploaded files from an old computer to dropbox. Then it required me to upgrade the app in order to sync. When the upgrade was complete, the app synced, and all the files I had just put onto dropbox are GONE. They are not in the trash, either on DB or on my computer. They are nowhere to be found on any of my computers or devices, all of which were synced after added another file to DB from the old computer.
This represents several hours of work (because the old computer is so slow) lost, not to mention priceless and personal files.

Also, what about your deleted files page?

NO NO NO. I uploaded the lost documents on the Mike-PC computer before the computer was linked to my account. At that point, the system synced and deleted the new files I added via Mike-PC. The folder "good" that readded and then deleted (and the file within) got transferred to the new computer safely, but the rest of the files are in the ether.

FrustratedSanDiego, just to clarify, when you uploaded these files the first time, did you use the Dropbox website, or the desktop app?
Can you walk me through the exact steps you took on your end to add these files to Dropbox?
If the files were ever added to your Dropbox account online, and they were deleted when the app synced, they should be visible on the pages Megan linked above.
Finally, when did this incident occur?

I was using the desktop app, on an old computer. When I went to sync it, the system made me upgrade the app. When that happened, it synced, and all the files I had just put onto the desktop app disappeared. They are not in the events page. They are not in the deleted files page, either on DB or on my laptop.
This all happened Thursday night 11/16.

Hi FrustratedSanDiego, if the files are not in the events page, then it means that they weren't uploaded.
You mentioned that you put them in the desktop app, do you mean in the Dropbox folder? Do you have the missing files visible in the recycle bin on your machine, or another copy of them elsewhere?

I put them onto the App. That is probably the folder. They are not there. They are not in my computer trash. THEY ARE GONE. HOW ARE THEY GONE?
