We're missing folders from 2024 and we can't find them anywhere.
We are a small group of volunteers who run peer support groups for people with chronic conditions. All of our folders/files from 2024 (except the few files that were not in folders) have disappeared. These have the names of all our participants on them and we are rather frantic. We have spent hours attempting to find them with no luck. They are not in the Deleted Files bin. Can anyone please help?

Have you checked your Events page?

Thank you for your reply. Yes, we have checked that, but it still only goes up to 2023 unfortunately.

APSN, do you have any other Dropbox accounts (under another email address) where these files may be currently saved?
Were these files/folders shared with anyone else? Have you checked your Shared tab here?

Thank you for your reply Nancy. Yes, the folders are shared with others, but they can't see the 2024 files either. This means that any new participants for 2024 have been lost and we are quite concerned.

If others cannot see the folder my guess here is whoever is the owner of the Share has unshared it.
What do people see at www.dropbox.com/share ? Can you rejoin anything from there.

Sorry - I didn't make that clear. They can see the folders, but no files past 2023. It's just the 2024 files that have gone missing.

If they dont appear on Events then its (literally) one of a few things that's happened:
- They are in a share and that share has been closed - that wouldn't happen if it is just files in a folder, however
- They have never been uploaded for whatever reason (quota issues?) and so not on Dropbox hence not showing on Events
- They have been permanently deleted - which removes them from the Events list.
- Any deletions etc. on Dropbox would show on Events, but, would only be recoverable for 30 days anyway, after that they are not recoverable.
Its almost certain here you are going to need to look at restoring from backups I'm afraid.
If they arent on Events and not shared they are either permanently delete or never existed here in first place 😞

Thank you for your help. We are also wondering if they are permanently gone. They definitely existed. However, this has to be a DB issue because we have been using it for too long for it to be any "accident" on our part. We will have lost some financial records as well. We are in the process of attempting to recover names by going through emails etc. to see if we can at least get those. Thanks again and I wonder if we should be looking at an alternative to DB for cloud management. We had a similar issue right out of the blue last year, but it wasn't as serious and we eventually managed a work around that recovered almost everything that we needed. Thanks again.

Thank you for your help Nancy. We only have the one email account and yes, we have checked the Shared tab. The weird thing is that there is a recently created file that has appeared in our records. That is the only file we have for 2024.

Apologies if you’ve already mentioned this above, APSN, but did you also insert the names of the missing files in the search bar (at the top part of www.dropbox.com) and there are no results showing?
If not, the only other thing we can try is to log a ticket for you and see if we can find something on our end; I can’t guarantee much, though.
