Desktop and Documents deleted, Dropbox full, can't stop sync.
Recen't changes in Dropbox are a monumental disaster. I can't believe they are pulling stunts like this.
1. Dropbox started syncing the Desktop and Documents folders on my Mac without my permission. There were very large files on my Desktop, which then of course went above the Dropbox storage quota.
2. Without doing anything other than keeping the Mac and Dropbox updated, all files from my Desktop and Documents folders were removed.
3. The Desktop and Document folder locations changed without my permission.
4. It took me a good amount of time to find the ways to restore my Desktop and Documents folders to even function, so I could download the files from a Dropbox backup.
5. In order to get Dropbox working again, I would have to stop syncing the Desktop and Documents folders, and remove the existing backup. Neither of which can be done due to various errors.
6. To sign up here to make this post, Dropbox awarded me with all kinds of batches and trash, sending me six emails congratulating me about the awards.
Each of the above would alone had me severely considering ditching Dropbox altogether. Just guess what they all do together. My trust can never be earned back.

Hi mrelwood, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
It sounds like you enable the Dropbox Backup feature to store the Desktop and Documents folder in your Dropbox account.
Were you able to fully disable the feature from your account, which would free up the quota on your account as well?
This will help me to assist further!
- mrelwoodExplorer | Level 4I had never even heard of the “Dropbox Backup” feature before I started looking into these issues. I definitely haven’t enabled it myself.
I was not able to disable syncing or to delete the backup. I already stopped using Dropbox, and moved all my (intended) Dropbox data to Mega.nz. I’m not going to launch the Dropbox Desktop app ever again, so I’m not interested in doing any testing with it.
Meanwhile, I kept getting emails from Dropbox congratulating me from badges and whatnot. All because I sent one single bitter message. Someone hasn’t thought this through. I really hope my unsubscribe was successful.
Btw, requiring a two-step verification just to reply on a forum discussion feels a bit ridiculous.
