Hi ngb, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
What version of your OS and the Dropbox desktop application are you running on your machine?
A screenshot showing the number of files trying to sync would be helpful
This will help me to assist further!

macOS Sonoma 14.5.
dropbox v199.4.6287
43,767 items 13.69GB on Mac, 181.2GB on Dropbox (dont know how many files there)
doesn't show sync issues. it gets stuck on indexing forever (months)

In the Dropbox folder, do you see any files or folders with the blue syncing icon visible?

Thanks for clarifying that for us ngb
Have you granted Dropbox full disk access as outlined here?
Also, have you tried fixing your hard links and permissions as outlined here?

ive tried enabling full disk access (it wasn't previously enabled) also fixing hard links and permissions and it doesn't seem to make any difference. the permissions button didn't seem to do anything.

Thanks for the additional information ngb
Could you send us a screenshot of the app's exact status and version as shown in your menu bar at the moment so that we can have a visual too?
Also, have you tried un-linking and re-linking your account through the app's preferences since you first noticed this issue?
