I reinstalled the Dropbox app and now I'm being asked to rename the old folder and create a new one.

I just downloaded dropbox from their site. It is installing. It has reached the point of creating the dropbox folder -- if this was a new install. However, this is a reinstall.

"Couldn't rename Dropbox to make room for your Dropbox folder.

Dropbox needs to rename your existing folder or file named Dropbox to finish installing. Please close any open documents and try again."

I have no files open that I can see. Should I reboot?

I sent the screen shots to Hanna, one of your associates because she changed where this thread was. I hope this doesn't confuse you. I'm waiting now to find out what button I should push to generate more screenshots (sob)

Hey muddleglum, let me also jump in here!

In order to avoid confusion or going back and forth between the two existing threads, I'll reply to this other thread of yours, where you've already uploaded your screenshots.

      Thanks!

Thank you, Walter. I did NOT delete my old Dropbox folder. I had to reboot, so that is quitting and relaunching, but it didn't fix anything. However, it did lead me through several steps more before giving up. I might point out that I have a slow, flaky internet connection. (It might also help to know I have a wi-fi connection to the computer next to the one with problems that is also on dropbox, and is slowly becoming more out of sync.)

As far as screen shots are concerned, I'll try, but I'm heading off and cannot do that until tomorrow.

No worries, muddleglum; you can send over a screenshot, when you get the chance.

One more question I’d like to ask you though; when reinstalling the Dropbox app, and before clicking on the option to create a new Dropbox folder, is there another “Advanced Settings” link on your screen?

If you click on it, you can select the parent folder of your already established Dropbox folder (instead of creating a new one and syncing everything from the start). For example, if you have your Dropbox folder in the path "D:\OtherDrive\Folder\Dropbox", you'll want to select the folder "D:\OtherDrive\Folder".

Let me know, if that helps.

Hey muddleglum - sorry to hear you're having issues with this.

Did you delete your old Dropbox folder folder before reinstalling? Also, did you try quitting and relaunching the app since you noticed this?

If it persists after rebooting, can you send us a screenshot of the error you get to  have a visual too?

    Thanks!
