I shared a folder with an old email address and Dropbox assigned a username to it. Why?

I added a previously used email address while sharing a folder and dropbox invented a name for the user..how to fix this? Is there some way to edit an "address book"?

It doesn't. It uses whatever name is listed on the account. You can change the name on an account from your Account settings.
