Keep files but don't sync them

Is it possible to stop synchronizing files/directories but still retain them locally?

If so, how?

I've tried and I can stop synching files but then they get deleted.

Why do I want this?  Because of virtual environments in Python : I want to keep them locally - they are copies of installed files that do not need synchronising, but are still needed in order to run some python code.

  • Hey John O.11, thanks for posting to the Dropbox Community today!

We do have a feature that allows you to ignore a file/folder that's in the Dropbox folder, so that it stays there, but doesn't get synced to your Dropbox.

You can read more about it here.

Let me know if you have any questions.
