Re: The Requested Operation Couldn’t Be Completed error - Dragging & Dropping into Files app on iPad
Hi,
when trying to move files within the Dropbox using the iOS file manager (iOS 13.5), I get the following message:
"The requested operation couldn't be completed because the feature is not supported"
This makes the iOS file manager pretty useless for me, do you have any suggestions how to solve the issue?
Thanks in advance
Kay

Hi Kay V., thanks for reaching out to us here!
Perhaps instead I can suggest taking this action through the Dropbox app instead. To move a file within the app, you can tap the "..." button next to the desired file and choose "Move" from the available options.
Also, if you need to quickly open a file in Dropbox that you have open via the Files app, you can press and hold the file to open the menu and choose "Open in Dropbox" so that you can take the relevant actions from there.
Let me know if this helps!

Hi Daphne,
thanks for your reply. I was aware that you can move files using the Dropbox app. The question remains, why it doesn't work using the iOS files app, contradicting the manual of your website?
https://help.dropbox.com/en-en/installs-integrations/mobile/ios-files-app
I mean this is a really basic function so it shouldn't be that much of a problem. I like the iOS file app better because the layout is much clearer and I I can use different cloud solutions.
It does work with Onedrive though, so Apple I assume Apple isn't the culprit? Will the issue be solved in the near future?
Thanks a lot

Thanks for getting back to me here Kay V..
I'm looking into this on my side, so please bear with me while I do some digging.
In the meantime, can you just confirm for me which version of the mobile app you have installed? You can check this by opening the Dropbox app, tapping the "Account" tab, tapping the gear icon and then checking under "App version".
Keep me posted!

Hi Daphne,
I'm using the latest version of the Dropbox App, so 190.2.2.
Thanks for your effort and best of luck!

Thanks for the info Kay V.!
Can you just clarify for me, does this error occur only when trying to drag and drop the file? Or do you get the same error when you select the file and choose the move option there?
- Willeverywhere5 years agoExplorer | Level 4Hi Jay,
I prefer to use the Files app because I can open multiple windows, I can do a right click, it is good integrated with iOS. I need two windows because I want to see my documents when I rename them, also I need two windows because I can drag-n-drop and move my files with no efforts between two folders, the move option is not really a good solution for me.
I found an alternative solution, I’m using the PDFExpert app that integrates really well with Dropbox, it not the purpose of this app but I’m using it as a file manager and it is working good for my need, they allow me to use multiple windows and drag and drop, etc.
I would definitely prefer to use your app or the Files app instead of a third party app.
Thank you for your answers - Kay V.5 years agoExplorer | Level 4The error occurs on both occasions.

Thanks for that Kay V..
Could you just try disabling and then enabling Dropbox as a location within the Files app?
To do this, open up the Files app and tap the "..." option in the top right and choose "Edit". From here, try toggling off and on the Dropbox option.

Hi Daphne,
I just followed your instructions of disabling/re-enabling Dropbox on the Files app, and I’m still getting this error.

I tried it and it didn't work either, sorry.

Thank you both Kay V. and Willeverywhere for your updates and sticking with me so far!
I'm still looking into this on my side and I'll keep you updated with my findings here.
In the meantime, the workaround I can suggest for now would be what I outlined previously here. Thanks for sharing your workaround for this too Willeverywhere, perhaps if you're using the same app Kay V. you can try this out.
If there's anything else I can help with at the moment, please feel free to just give me a nudge here.
Hope you have a lovely weekend ahead - thanks!

- Kay V.5 years agoExplorer | Level 4Thanks for your reply. I can’t figure out any options how to contact the dropbox support via email, maybe because I’m on the basic, free subscription?Regarding the fact that that there are a bunch of other people having this problem I would appreciate it if you would contact the expert team. Would that be possible?

Thanks Daphne!
- Kay V.5 years agoExplorer | Level 4Hi Daphne , I tried to reply to your E-Mail with my E-Mail-App (iOS) but it came back after a few days because it couldn’t be delivered.
Here’s what I wrote to you:
Hi Daphne,
I am using an iPad Pro 2020 with iPad OS 13.5 an an iPhone 7 with iOS 13.5.1, both devices have the issue.
My iPhone did not have the issue though, before I updated it from iOS 12.4 to 13.5.1, suggesting some incompatibilities between iOS 13.5.x and the iOS file manager app.
Best wishes
