Dropbox is full - cannot get in to see why

I am a casual user who uses Dropbox for my screenshots and to upload pics from my camera.   Basic Account is more than enough.   I recently installed an external hard drive and I am pretty sure Dropbox decided to back up what I was putting on the external hard drive because it now tells me my storage is full.   A tech went in and switched off the relationship of Dropbox to the hard drive.  Fine.  It will not do that anymore.  He also checked picture and screenshots and verified that I am using a tiny amount of space.  In the meantime I am still being told my storage is full and I THINK it is everything it copied before it was switched off.   The problem is I cannot get into Dropbox to see what is there in order to delete files.
