Error that I've run out of space when trying to open a folder shared with me

I have just tried to open a folder that has been shared with, and it automatically brings up the upgrade window, stating that I have run out of space. But according to the details in my account, I am only using 2.6M out of an available 2GB.

The file is definitely no where near 2GB, but it won't let me get any further or view anything, beyond the upgrade account page.

If you receive that message while trying to accept a shared folder, then the folder is larger than the space available in your account. There's no other explanation.

Verify the size of the folder with the person that invited you, and compare that to the space available in your account. Be sure to look at your usage as shown on your Plan page, and share a screenshot of it here. It should look like this:

If you're unable to accept the folder due to it's size, you'll either need to upgrade your account or ask the sender to send you a view-only shared link so you can view and download the content as needed.
