I see a folder with 265GB of data, but when I open it, it's empty.
Hi. Please help me.. I am on macbook pro 2015, macos storage management shows my dropbox folder to be 265.4GB, but when I click to see what is inside- it is empty. My plan is 2GB, so where are my files? I also have the dropbox app uninstalled. This has been going on for over a year, so annoying. Please help me and I will be eternally grateful.

Hi ob6gottablast, are you able to view any hidden files or folders in your Dropbox folder, to see if the files are somehow hidden there?
Is it possible that you have the Dropbox cache folder which is taking up this space?

Hello, so I tried opening it and was empty.. also for some reason I have three other dropbox folders but they take up no space. As for the website it still shows the same thing as the initial photo I sent and three small folders, no sight of the 265 gb

Hey ob6gottablast, I hope you're feeling better!
If you locate your Dropbox folder using Finder and try to open it that way, does it look empty there too?
Do you see your content when visiting your account online?

Hello, sorry for the late response, broke my arm. I do need the files inside the folder because I make music, and I fear some of my projects can be in the folder. Is there no way for me to view the folder with all of its files? ;(

That false storage folder issue on macOS can be super confusing! From my experience, sometimes these folders pop up when your Mac is trying to organize files or something gets stuck during an update.

Hey ob6gottablast - sorry to hear about this.
It seems like the Dropbox Folder on your computer was not deleted when you uninstalled the Dropbox desktop app in the first place.
Can you navigate to the Dropbox Folder now and delete it from your Mac?
This should free up any hard drive space that was taken up by the Dropbox folder.
Just make sure you don't need any of the files that are stored there first.
I hope this helps and please keep me posted on your progress.
