Can I sync any folder on my drive to dropbox except the Dropbox folder?

Hello,

Can I sync any folder on my drive to dropbox except the Dropbox folder?

  • No, Dropbox application syncs only the Dropbox folder (and everything within, of course).

Hey cowee, I hope you're doing well!

You might also want to have a look at our Backup feature.

Computer backup lets you back up certain key folders, such as “Desktop”, “Documents” and “Downloads” to Dropbox. Any changes you make to those folders on your computer or in Dropbox will continuously sync to both.

Please let me know if you have any more questions or feedback and I'll be glad to help!

    Hi Megan,

What do mean you "both"???! Doesn't such statement sound a bit slippery? There is just a single place (within Dropbox folder)!!! The folders you are referring to (user's special folders) are moved actually on "backup" turn on. There are NOT "both"!

Hi Здравко, you're partly right on this one!

The backed-up folders will appear as normal and in their regular location in Finder/Explorer, but in reality they will link to folders inside the Dropbox folder. That's what my earlier statement meant.

If you need anything else, let me know.

😁Megan, I can see you aren't aware how exactly Dropbox application works (in spite you're Dropboxer). In all cases Dropbox can sync only files residing into the Dropbox folder (or subfolders there). It's another story, is on the original place set a shortcut or not! Most probably you're mixing this.

Of course, there are exceptions (introduced relatively recent) - external drives. But this is out of OP context (current/internal drive). 😉

Would be nice if your application breaks that limitation (only within Dropbox folder), a limitation that never existed for some of Dropbox competitors. 👍 If you make your personal pressure to development team, such thing to be achieved..., Thanks. 🙋

When she said "Any changes you make to those folders on your computer or in Dropbox will continuously sync to both." I think she's referring to the folders in the local Dropbox folder and the folders in the Dropbox account online; not two different folder locations on the drive.

🤔 Ok, might be, but was cowee thinking the same? 🧐🙂
