I get an error message that Windows System Restore failed?
Hi
When I run Windows System Restore it fails with this error message
System Restore failed to replace the file (D:\Users\*******\Dropbox\.dropbox.cache\qebcobkqbgbzfynfuwbof\placeholder.bat) with its original copy from the restore point. An unspecified error occurred during restore. (0x80070780)
I have completed system recovery from an image without problem but on several occasions I have come up against this error when trying to correct a problem using system restore which would be easier to use if I could. I still have the problem if I run the system restore in safe mode with the same failour message
Any suggestions on allowing the restore to work
Richard
Hi everyone,
We're testing out some changes in v182 (currently in beta) that should hopefully help with this. Let us know if you continue to run into problems.
Thanks

I'm also experiencing this same issue when trying to run a system restore, which is highly annoying to be honest.

Definetely won't be advising any of our clients to be using Dropbox, OneDrive it is.
You've known about this issue since last year, and it's still a problem - You can't say that a fix is to exclude files using regedit - The average user isn't going to know what you're talking about and when they need to depend of System Restore, it's all a little too late.
Sincerly,
Someone who definetely isn't using Dropbox again.

Hi
Just seen its now the second anniversary of my original post :birthday: Dropbox really dont care about this problem
Sadly we are locked into using Dropbox for work so moving away isnt an option - I would if I could
My alternative is to make system images on a regular basis - but really shouldnt have to

I just recently discovered this error. Does it also cause issues with Windows Updates?
- kydimos6 years agoHelpful | Level 6
I think Windows Updates works okay, but if someone encounters problems they hopefulle decribes here them as well.

Thanks much. For some false hope I contacted Support yesterday, and "first I've heard of this issue" and "sorry" were the themes. I did remove Dropbox as was requested in the troubleshooting; just never re-installing it. Moving to Google Drive today.

Many people in this thread complained to support. They definetely know about it....just don't care that their app breaks windows.

I am also having this problem. When will a solution be provided?
- Mrtatemyballs6 years agoHelpful | Level 6Never. Dropbox doesn't care.
