Moving Dropbox directory to a new drive (problem)
Hi,
I want to move my DB folder to a new, bigger HDD drive, but I'm getting an error during the transfer.
"Some files cannot be transferred. Choose a new location or close any open files and try again." (I'm on Win 10)
I've made this before without any problems on my 2nd computer but this time, no luck.
Support had two solutions. They asked me to turn off all apps that can use the Sync option on files - I turned off almost everything I could in Task Manager (including Creative Cloud, Office apps and even Antivirus), but still no luck. I'm getting the error again somewhere in the middle of the transfer.
The second option is a bit odd and, for sure, the most time-consuming. I was asked to delete Dropbox. Instal it again on a new drive and wait till it all Sinc again - but it's 2,5 TB...
Has anyone had such a problem in the past and has some good workaround without downloading the content again?
Best regards,
Robert

Hi RobertKob, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
If you're experiencing this issue, then you have an app or service possibly still trying to access the folder in question.
Could you try again by quitting all open apps and services from the system tray as well, and then attempt the move again to see if this helps?
This will help me to assist further!

Could it be a 2nd computer that also uses the same account? Maybe I should turn it off for this folder transfer?

Another computer using the same account wouldn't affect this, since files primarily sync to the site first.
Aside from that, the options the support agent provided would be correct to get the files onto the new drive.
