Question on the Beta app for macOS 12.5.

Like many, so fed up with the slow full support for macOS 12.5+

I have finally got the admin account to switch on the Beta install setting but I have a few questions before I install...

  1. When I go to install it says about moving my folders to a local location... but I need it to remain online only as I don't have the local hard drive space. When it says about moving the folder location, I assume it won't copy the files onto my hard drive?
  2. Does the new install work as per the current setup with the app icon in the top right, syncing as it needs too?
  3. And most importantly... does it fix the Zero Bytes issue, and not have to manually download every **bleep** link when using After Effects and InDesign?

Thanks!

Hey there, Pick Nick, welcome to our Community!

In regards to your first question, your files should move accordingly, in order to keep their initial syncing state, and the space in your local location too.

And yes, the new installation works the same way when it comes to the Dropbox icon, and the syncing of content. We have some changes when it comes to the syncing icons, that you can see here

We do have some known limitations that you can see here. As for your third question, can you give me some additional info?

Do you wish to know if files will automatically sync as available offline, when trying to use them using a third-party app?

Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

      Hi.

      1. So when it moves to the new Mac folder location, the files will remain online only correct?

      3. When using software like Adobe InDesign or After Effects pre 12.5 it would automatically download all linked content needed. Currently since 12.5 it does not as it sees all files as missing 'zero bytes' and you have to manually find and open each individual link!

So with his new beta 12.5 will it fix the issue as description above?

      Thanks

Hi Pick Nick, yes the files should remain online-only.

As for your second question, it's normal for online-only content to show as zero bytes, since the only thing taking space in the device is the placeholder of the file.

I can't promise you that making this change will change how these files are recalled by third-party apps.
