Re: Dropbox corrupts Windows 10 Start Menu

Hey JCplusULTRA, thanks for joining our Community.

Quite a strange issue here, but let's see what we can find out.

Does closing the Dropbox app also stop this issue or only uninstalling it?

Also, if you hover over the Dropbox icon in your system tray, what's the sync status and version of the app?

Let me know and we'll go from there.

Closing Dropbox does not fix the issue. It resolves right after uninstalling, even without reboot.

Status is up to date, and I'm constantly running the latest version due to constantly uninstalling, reinstalling. 178.3.4676

A Google search on this issue shows others have had this same problem since 2019.

Thanks for the update on this, JCplusULTRA.

It seems that you're running a beta version of the app, which is experimental, so that might be causing this.

Can you turn off the "early releases" option here and then simply reinstall the app and see if that helps?

Strange, I don't recall ever opting-in for early releases. I reinstalled and am now on 177.4.5399. I'll wait and see if the problem re-occurs.

Strange, I don't recall ever opting-in for early releases. I opted-out and reinstalled to 177.4.5399. After a few minutes, the problem resurfaced. Uninstalling fixed the issue. I reinstalled to 177.4.5399 again and am waiting to see if the problem resurfaces.

I think i have the same issue.

But i can say, that not only start menu is corrupted. Some apps don't start as well, and folders/"This PC" doesn't open. Or may be they do open after a long time.

Also it's strange because the apps and folder, witch are opened don't has any lag. They work fine and fast.
One more detail - i can open "Start menu" using "windows" key on a keyboard, but then i click with a mouse it's does not open.

Also i can say, that this problem seams to grow: for some time i can open Start menu with a "windows" key, and launch some app, then i can't launch any app from start menu, then i can't open start menu even with "windows" key...

It is really strange — after removing Dropbox app all runs well.

For now a had reinstalled and installed Dropbox app several times at past several days, and the scenario repeats...
(in my account "Early access" as disabled)
A can provide any log information if needed.

Hey sergei_x, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.

Could you clarify your device's exact OS version and the version and status of the desktop app as shown in your system tray as well?

Do you happen to be running any 3rd party apps that could be causing issues such as antivirus, firewalls or even 3rd party apps or services that backup or monitor your files somehow?

Sorry to hear about this, JCplusULTRA.

Can you also answer Walter's question to Sergei above, regarding the 3rd party apps?
