Rollout of new Mac Ventura Dropbox folder location (~/Library/CloudStorage) still ongoing?

Hi, I'm on Mac OS Ventura (13.0.1) and Dropbox v162.4.5419 (with a Dropbox Plus subscription) and everything is working smoothly... but, my Dropbox folder is still in "~/Dropbox"

As I understand it, the rollout of the move to ~/Library/CloudStorage is independent of Dropbox version number and is being coordinated user-by-user, so it's correct that some of us are still waiting to be prompted to make that move or have I been left behind?

Interested to hear if others are also still waiting. Many thanks.

  • Hey iancackett, thanks for posting your question to our Community!

We are indeed currently still in the process of rolling out the updated Dropbox for macOS app, which will provide full support for online-only files.

The update will not be rolled out to all Dropbox users at once, but rest assured you will receive a notification to update the app in the coming months.

To keep up to date with what is happening with the rollout, you can visit this page.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I found this enormously frustrating also. Your files are now in /users/youraccount/Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox. But wait you say, I don't see that folder! Well, that's because it's a hidden folder.  So helpful Apple! So to see that folder you must be in Finder and hit CMD-SHFT-. (period).  Then you'll see the hidden folders.  Then if you use a 3rd party file viewer you can drag the Dropbox folder into the Favorites on the left and start to use it like you used to.

My situation was made even more frustrating because I bought a new Mac and restored my TimeMachine backup to the new Mac and it put everything where it used to be. My old Mac couldn't be updated to Ventura. So for weeks I was saving files and working out of the old Dropbox folder which was in no way syncing to Dropbox while I had Dropbox installed and it was syncing to the secret CloudStorage folder that I had no idea existed.  This has been a royal mess and I expect much more of Dropbox than this!

Also, I'm super frustrated about the forcing of files to be stored in the cloud. I have manually right clicked on folders I want downloaded, and it shows a green checkbox and still every file inside has a cloud with an arrow - none of them are local, all in the cloud.  HOW DO WE MAKE THIS WORK??? This is ridiculous that the option to turn of cloud only storage is not available.

If I can't fix this easily soon, I'm going to be leaving Dropbox after over a decade of being a devoted user.

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all doing well.

You can check this Help Center article for more updates on this and the expected timeline. Other than that, whenever the update is available for your Dropbox app, you should receive a notification on your computer to install it.
