16 days agoDropbox Vault will be discontinued
Do you know what you are you doing ?????
Hey guys!
Thanks for showing your interest in Dropbox Vault.
To concentrate our efforts on further improving our existing security features and building new capabilities around advanced data protection, we’ve made the decision to discontinue Dropbox Vault.
From March 4th Dropbox Vault will no longer be available. If you’re currently using your Vault, that folder will automatically turn into a standard Dropbox folder, that doesn’t require a PIN to access. The files in your folder will remain the same.
I hope this clarifies!

Decided to comment on another post about Vault going away to show how angry I am about this decision...
I whole-heartily agree with the main post and all the comments. As a paying customer for 15+ years now, I am extremely upset and disappointed in this decision. It seems completely out of left field and without any consultation with paying customers as to what they think. It seems to be a purely cost-cutting measure at the detrimental expense of the security and peace of mind of all their users.
It's just a slap in the face.
I hope Dropbox reconsiders this very ill-considered decision, or I (and likely others) may have to look for alternative solutions.

It appears they didn't ask the consumer about this decision, just the higher ups at Dropbox. Maybe these young bucks ought to Google what Coke did back in the 90s. History always repeats itself.

I’m absolutely livid now. My yearly subscription makes it impossible for me to downgrade until October 2025! So, Dear Dropbox, I’m sure you will now offer me the ability to cancel or downgrade my subscription for full or pro-rated dollar amount, CORRECT?!?! Please provide links.

This is so bad!! Like many others here I've used Dropbox for many years, and I'm paying extra for it, not just for extra space but also for the security in the Vault. If no replacement comes up I must look for other alternatives than Dropbox.

The question then remains as to what the difference is to other cloud providers. Vault' was important to me, you force users to look for alternatives. Is that intentional?

But why did you stop Vault? a useful and essential function. I am very angry ... do you have a solution to protect a file? You overwhelm you but do not propose anything to replace. in a necklage

What a stupid decision. I’ll just downgrade my Dropbox plan as that is the only premium feature I value. Most of my work stuff is one OneDrive anyhow.

If Dropbox is dead set on discontinuing Vault then, for the price we pay, they could and should offer a new “more secure” product and migrate our files automatically. Maintaining a Dropbox account is like playing a shell game.

What a crazy decision. I've used and paid for Dropbox for 10 years and the Vault file is essential for me. Like others here I will regretably have to find another cloud storage solution.

Guessing its a cost cutting exercise as Vault is an add on to their Plus and Pro packages. Its a shame as there are other Dropbox apps that needed to be culled first before Vault.
You would of thought they could of at least posted an explanation? As I mentioned in another thread, Dropbox's record when it comes to data breaches hasn't been good so the extra layer of Vault security was a bonus.
With this Vault security layer now discontinued I will also be fully migrating over to another solution, probably OneDrive.
The trust in Dropbox's management has been taking hits with their dubious decisions lately, this is the final straw!Edited to say ..... Found a Dropbox Support answer below from another forum...
Reads to me that they possibly have found security issues with their software and pulled it before Vault was compromised ...."We discontinue Dropbox Vault primarily due to significant technical risks that could compromise the security we provide to our users. We want to concentrate our efforts on further enhancing our existing security features."

I've been leaving this service renewing on autopilot for years now purely for this feature and laziness to change. Looks like I'm just got the impetus to create a little app to solve this problem for myself for free essentially. Silly decision
