Misuse or mistake using my email address
I'm not "daskip". I might've had a dropbox account with one of my email addresses. Recently I got emails in French saying that a user named "daskip" registered an account with dropbox using my email address. It's difficult to understand. I could reset the password using my email address. It should not be possible.

Hi lab1, I hope you're doing well!
Do you remember the last time you signed into your Dropbox account?
If I were you, I'd also take a look into the events page, and check to restore anything that has been deleted.

There is nothing in events except the shared folder. I was in there in Nov/Dec months ago I think, I don't use it all the time b/c it's my archive. Can you even retrieve anything from that timeframe? Thx!

Hi lab1, how are you today?
If these files were deleted more than 30 days ago, then I'm afraid you wouldn't be able to retrieve them.
Have you checked to make sure that you didn't accidentally open a new Dropbox account, hence you can't find your content?

I 100% did not and other hacking posts have said that you could pull files from 180 days. Is that not possible? That means no one's files are save on your service which is very disturbing.

The recovery time for deleted files is based on the plan you have. Basic (i.e. free), Plus and Family accounts include 30 days of recovery. Professional and Business accounts include 180 days.

Note that upgrading your account after a file has been deleted does not mean you can recover files that were deleted more than 30 days ago. It's already beyond the limit, so the files are already gone. The 180 day period only applies to files deleted after the upgrade is purchased.

Hi Rich,
It was a pro account. Either way, bad business practice.

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem. I haven't used this DB account for a long time, but suddenly noticed that my name has changed to "daskip tgay".
On my inbox I found a request in French to reinitialize my password. It was in October 2021, I don't remember if I did anything with it.
I guess I didn't lose my files, there were few, but they were business files and I need to know if they could have been copied! If so, I must report it to the employer quickly!
Can you explain what happened? Has our accounts been hacked? Has the problem been resolved?

Hey MarcinM, sorry to hear about this.
Can you take a look at your account's Security page to see if there's any unidentified device or web session listed there?
Also, have you changed your account's password since you received that email?
- lab14 years agoExplorer | Level 4I’m not sure about the other user but I didn’t see any devices or seasons that were unknown. Is there no one on the security team concerned about this? I think I’m still within my 180 days. Can you have them pls check again? Thx.

Hi lab1!
What is the type of account you have on your end? For Basic, and Plus accounts it's usually 30 days.
As for the missing files, if they were within your available restoration time, you should be able to retrieve them on your end too.
