Do you happen to have another Dropbox account perhaps, associated with a different email address of yours?
Also, can you clarify if you had upgraded your account via the website or if it was through the app store on a mobile device?Thanks!

Yes, thanks, it seems that my account email address for logging in was not the one that all my Dropbox correspondence uses, nor is it one I ever remember setting up. Not sure how this happened although I think it might be a default email address, but anyway I've just managed to get in, finally. So thank you.
