Dropbox defaults to Backups
Hi,
Today my Dropbox suddenly started redirecting into "Backups" and I am unable to upload files to my account. It seems to want to automatically backup or sync all my files which I do not want. I searched for instructions of how to disable backups but can't find the settings listed.
According to Dropbox help page the disabling should happen by:
- Open your Dropbox desktop preferences.
- Click the Backups tab.
- Click Manage backup.
- Under Adjust settings, click Disable backup.
I can get to point 3 but I don't have any 'Adjust' settings option.
The screen is showing that my Mac is disabled for backups and the only action I can take is to enable backup...
Has anyone else had the same issue and how did you resolve it?

Hey NI44, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Can you please clarify what you mean by "Dropbox suddenly started redirecting into "Backups" and I am unable to upload files to my account"?
How are you being redirected and at which point of which process?
Are you having trouble opening your Dropbox folder to add files to your account?
Any additional info would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Hannah,
I can get into my main Dropbox home page (https://www.dropbox.com/home) but as soon as I try to access a location/folder, I am redirected to https://www.dropbox.com/backup/all
This only started happening today and my Manage Backup screen does not give me the option to Adjust Settings -> Disable Backup.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Thanks for joining this discussion, cinergia and thanks for clarifying, NI44.
If you access our website through a different browser or a private browsing window, are you getting the same behavior?

Hi
Yes, I just tried it with 3 different modes.
1) Mozilla Firefox
2) Mozilla Firefox private mode
3) Google Chrome
I ended the same way with the 3 options commentad above. When I try to acces my folder, dropbox changes to dropbox backup and i can't do anything in the folders.
Thanks

Doesn't seem to be computer related either. I've tried with 2 computers and the same thing happens. Even if I type in the URL 'home' instead of 'backups' it just redirects to backups and I can't access any of my folders.
The changed happened overnight, last night I uploaded files and folders to my Dropbox and in the morning I couldn't do this anymore.

Hi NI44 & cinergia, when you're getting redirected to the Backup page, do you see any active backups at all?

Hi,
My Mac is listed but it's unlinked.
In the 'Manage Backup' settings I can only activate the backup for my Mac (which I don't want to do as it would sync it with my laptop which would then run out of memory), I don't have the 'Adjust Settings' option to disable backup.

Hi NI44, the backup for the Mac wouldn't sync to a laptop, as it's a one way backup to the site.
Do you want to keep the Mac backup on the site? Have you tried deleting the backup for the Mac?

Hi,
I don't want any backups for any of my computers and I haven't set up any backups either, I only wish to upload selected files and folders from my computer. However, currently I am unable to access any of my files or folders on my Dropbox account.
