My entire Dropbox account has been deleted after sharing with another user.

I joined another Dropbox account for a project, and unshared after the project was over.  This appeared to just permissions system, but now all my files and folders have been deleted.  After looking at my payments, it appears my last monthly payment was refunded.

I'm not sure what the hell happened, but it appears my whole account was erased and I'm losing my mind on how this could have happened.

Did I transfer my account over to a different user? Is this even possible?  I need to restore my files and don't see any way to access anyone by phone.  Any help would be appreciated!

It sounds like you were invited to and joined their Business account. When doing so, you merged your account into their team account, effectively making them the owner of your account. If you're on a paid plan when this happens, you receive a prorated refund for the time remaining on your account. Later, when you're removed from the team, the account is deleted.

You need to contact the team admin and ask them to restore your account. Act quickly because they only have seven days to restore the account after it's been deleted. Once restored, they need to convert your account back to an individual account. Once the account has been restored and converted back to an individual account, you can resubscribe if needed.

      Hi Rich,

I reached out to the team and they said there was no restore account option. They claimed to use the transfer option instead of deleting.

I'm not sure what to do next, because I still have no access to my files, and my account now behaves like it was recently opened.  Are the files in posession of someone other than myself?

The only transfer option that exists when removing someone from a Business team account is to transfer the person's files to another member. Regardless of which option they choose, it starts with deleting the user.

Did you create a new account with the same email address?

Potentially, yes, if the team admin used the option to transfer your account's files to another member. Only the team admin will know this.

I'd reach back out and ask them to double check the exact steps they took. They're really the only ones that can do anything about this. Dropbox can't recover an account that was deleted from a team. Only the team admin can do this, and remember that seven day recovery window.
