Why does the Dropbox forum need to view basic information, like username, email etc?

When I logged into the Dropbox forum today, I was sent to a page that said: "Dropbox Community Forum would like to: View basic information about your Dropbox account such as username, email, and coun...

That's because the forums use your Dropbox account to sign in. You can't sign in to the forums without a Dropbox account. They're one in the same. It's like using your Google account to sign in to other services, only this uses your Dropbox account.
