Auto-updates: In progress
I am currently installing on 3 identical VM's (they were imaged off the same master), and 2 selected 8.4.21 and one selected 9.4.49 as the release version. when going to www.dropbox.com\install , All 3 are using the same ISP, but different gateways.
Its a bit disconcerting when it appears external influences affect what version presented!
And really a "release notes" link on your main install page that goes to BUTTKISS ALL! One tends to expect you dont have release notes now due to the only note would be "OMG patched faults" :(
> Thanks for using Dropbox! The desktop client is regularly updated with many improvements and fixes.
And what's new? Why are you publish a release note? Save the time!
New in this release: we upped the version number from 8 to 9.
"Thanks for using Dropbox! The desktop client is regularly updated with many improvements and fixes."
We are deploying dropbox clients for large buisnesses, and all we get is the client is updated with fixes.
Is there anyone who can tell us what is updated, and what fixes that is made? Or is it just a simple test build gone wrong in the lab, like 8.4.20?
Please let us know something, dropbox!
I had the versioning issue on my Mac download as well. One computer gave me v9 when going to the auto download page, the other v8. Made me wonder if v9 had been pulled for some reason.
New stable versions of the Dropbox desktop client are rolled out over the course of several days. During that time, different computers could be running the latest or the previous stable version. Within a few days, desktop clients running the previous version will automatically update to the latest.
"New stable versions ... blah blah blah ... latest."
Was that meant to address my issue? Cause it failed completely.
I said the download page presented two different versions as the current one, someone else has reported it also. This has nothing to do with the auto update feature, its to do with the in ability to rely on the web site for consistency, and if you cant trust the behavour of the dropbox web download point, then what makes you think you can trust the behavour of what is downloaded from there?
New stable versions are rolled out both on the website download page as well as via autoupdate. During a rollout, going to the website downloading page can result in downloading either the latest or previous stable version. If the previous stable version is downloaded and installed, it will automatically update to the latest version within a few days.
So since you're here, Josh, how 'bout an update on what's happening with those change logs?
Big issue with OS X 10.11.6 and a 2010 MacBook Pro, the 9.4.49 version of dropbox force the use of the nvidia graphic card.
Must switch to the previous version...
Came here to see if my MacBook 2010 graphic card change is due to the update.
As Thierry says the same, this seems to be a major bug in this release.
For now I will revert to the former version.
If from now on all dropbox updates will force my nvidia graphic, I will leave dropbox.

LOL all you did is reword your original OFF TOPIC answer to include the website, this does NOT answer what I was addressing, that an identical client, hell it even came from the same 24 bit submasked ip range, resulted in a different "LATEST" client from the website, and THAT behavour in itself makes the product look untrustworthy.
On top of this is the actual problem that often (appears to be based on what the app is doing at that very moment) an auto update of a client performing a major sync operation such as say the 400K of files ours would have been doing, will cause a database failure resulting in a complete resync AGAIN.
* and dont say it doesnt happen, I have seen it enough times to know it does, DB clearly never battery tested the app on high volume file systems *
This update forces my 2010 MacBook Pro to switch to the discrete graphics card. Verified using gfxCardStatus.
Dependency on NVIDIA card is a showstopper.
Dear dropbox,
I've switched to using Box as I despise companies that don't listen to their customers.
There is almost no comment on this page that requests anything other than a change log, yet you still ignore us. So to you and your shitty app (connection problems), I say adios.
This bug still persists, I cant move my files on my computer windows 10 64bit
Also dealing with this version making my 2010 MBP switch graphics cards (and thus drain my battery). Please fix this! No reason for it.
I'm having the same problem others have mentioned. This version is forcing discrete graphics on my 2010 MacBook Pro. Please fix this ASAP!
Discrete graphic on Mac book pro, makes working far for a plug impossible ...
Had this on a previous version running mac os X.10 but his was fixed, please fix it again as soon as ossible
Thanks
Those getting confused/angry about not all machines getting the same version: not all apps push updates to all clients at once. Staged rollouts are frequently used.
Reasons can include:
1) Bandwidth: all clients updating at the same time generate an large load on the servers.
2) Monitoring. If there's an issue with an update it'll show up in telemetry data pretty quickly. If it doesn't rollout can continue/increase. If it does adjustment/fixes can be made. If everybody gets the new version immediately, everybody is impacted by issues.
And yes: more detailed release notes are very welcome.
Guys, I think the one reason (in my opinion) why Dropbox doesn't put out change logs anymore is that they don't want to be scrutinized as not being able to release new features, etc. like Evernote. They choose to ignore us because, maybe, they think we are just a fraction of their customer base and threats of us leaving would be nothing to them, even if we leave. So I guess that's why they stopped putting out change logs. :(
I could care less about new features, I just want my integrated graphics back
i need my integrated graphics back! this new version crashes my macbook.
Hi,
Thanks everyone for the reports about the graphics card issues on MBP 2010. Our new beta build should have a fix for these issues:
https://www.dropboxforum.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/208929203-Beta-Build-10-3-22
Thanks!
John
Yes it’s fixed!
Thanks for this quick fix and your support!
Huh, so they do fix things. If only there were some way to note what had changed in a new release, so that users could be aware of when a fix has been implemented?
This could be an industry shaking development, think of the press! The user satisfaction! The support requests that aren't needed as users know what is changing? Wow, this would be so cool.
What do you say Dropbox, time to implement some sort of notes discussing each release?
Although it works, still missing dropbox icon on kde 4.14 toolbar. I use dropbox pro so, it's not a free version and pay the corresponding fee every year, and cannot belive that this bug still remains since dropbox version 3!!!
As a workaround I need to type in a shell window, as has been suggested many times:
dropbox stop && dbus-launch dropbox start
But this cannot be a solution.
Like others here, I'm getting tired of the version bloat. It's changing numbers for the sake of changing numbers, to keep up with the likes of Chrome and Firefox who have overdosed on the higher-number-is-better drug. Maybe you should get out of the version number pissing contest and actually do something with the product. From the looks of it, your standard "lots of fixes and improvements" updates really means "we let a hundred monkeys pound the keyboard for a while and then upped the version #".
Seriously, when will you stop the madness? When will you listen to the scores and scores of requests for an actual change log? When will you stop drooling over version numbers? It's becoming increasingly apparent that you just don't care.I'll hang in there for a while, but come renewal time, if you're still this unresponsive to the many reasonable requests and continue to hide behind the "many fixes" say-nothing, I'll be looking for another solution. All you're doing is introducing new bugs.
There a bug in the latest Windows versions.
After syncing everything on boot pc / launch the program
Clicking on the icon in the system area it stays on starting instead of updated. On hover it change to pausing, on blur it's correct.

upd2. well, now it tries to autoupdate and the icon is always blue (like it's syncing). is it possible to stop autoupdate?
upd. nah! very useful community. now i see there are other builds. hastened to write. previous builds work. thanks.
tried all variants of installation, different PC's and always get the same error:
~/.dropbox-dist$ ~/.dropbox-dist/dropboxd
