To speed up my computer's sign-in, please allow the dropbox client to use "Delayed start"...
[...rather than cause a "high startup impact" as now shown in Windows 10's "Task Manager" on the [Startup] tab -- (for details see also the hidden columns in that tab).
I'm envisioning the same kind of "Automatic (Delayed Start)" option that windows' "Services" can be configured to use in the "Computer Management" app.]

[i.e., a non-blocking "Delayed Start" would allow my sign-in to proceed without waiting on the dropbox to get going... Then only a few moments AFTER my Windows-login is running and responsive, does your app start (thereby hogging up my disk-io & cpu). PLEASE:]

This would be an amazing improvement to the desktop application.
Dropbox delayed start... 1 - 5 (configurable) minutes after the user logs in to windows.
There is no reason not to do this. - pyromanciExplorer | Level 3
Is there a chance a short delay before new file and file change sync's happen?
I've seen this asked multiple times with each topic being markered "Solved", but there obivously isn't anything in the settings.
See the problem is i'mm be working on a project and I havethe files sitting in dropbox so i can work on them from home, the office, and on my laptop. However teh software when saving creates temp files and backups, overwrites, ect.
The problem is dropbox will grab the files and lock them for syncing instantly. which screws with the saving process. So I have to pause the entire sync processwhile i'm working and far more often then not i forget to reenable it.
So a 1-2 second or even a delay we can adjust in the settings is very much needed. Especially since i've seen so many people ask for this already.

Excellent idea! Dropbox hammers my disk I/O when starting; even when there is nothing to sync. This process can cause problems when other services are competing to start at login.
- roaldNew member | Level 2I use WinPatrol to delay Dropbox starting. Unfortunately, Dropbox puts itself back into the immediate start list. As others have said, there is no harm in delaying the start. When will Dropbox listen to its users?

Totally agree. Dropbox hogs my disk usage and my computer is unusable for about 5 minutes after startup. Disabling the dropbox service solves it, but then I have to remember to turn it back on or my files won't back up.

I have my Dopbox folder setup on an external spinning drive that is encrypted in Mac OS. Since it is encrypted it takes a little longer to mount than a normal drive on boot up (I have the password saved to the keychain so it does mount automatically), which results in Dropbox always complaining that the folder is missing and I have to quit the app and restart it. If there was a way to add a delay, even like 5 or 10 seconds so the external drive is given a chance to mount that would make using Dropbox much more seamless. Or if there is some other process that it could look at and know that yes the drive is connected it just needs to wait for the keychain/mounting process to occur.
