I have my account linked to google and used to sign in with a 'googlemail' email address. Somewhere along the line I accidentally created a new account to the same email but instead it is 'gmail'.

These are obviously still the same email address, and I am receiving emails about my old account running out of storage, but every time I try to log in to the original account it brings me back to the new empty account (regardless if I use googlemail or gmail.

I have tried doing this on both my laptop and phone and they all have the same issue.

How do I get back in to the old account to recover my files? Thank you

Hi @Kathae, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Gmail has various ways of creating new accounts, while all going to the same Gmail inbox. This can include adding a dot in the email, or a + (such as john.smith@gmail.com, or johnsmith+test@gmail.com). The same would apply to Googlemail addresses.

However, Dropbox would see each of these addresses as a new account, and unrelated to each other.

Could you doublecheck the exact spelling of email address those messages from Dropbox are being sent to, and ensure you login to the Dropbox site using that email. Make sure you don't use the official Google Sign In option, and instead enter the email and password manually (or reset the password if you're not sure).

Keep me updated with any progress!
