Thanks for the additional feedback, Gavin! I certainly agree, this would be a good feature to have.

Hi, has anyone got a simple way to use API on cloud/mobile that allows me to throw strings at a dropbox file and append them. As if I was updating journal files with date/time action/status

Great if its a simple call

The Dropbox API unfortunately doesn't offer an API call for appending data to existing files. We'll consider this a feature request though.

That being the case, you'll need to download the file, add your data, and upload the whole new version of the file. If you want to do that, I recommend checking out the tutorial for whichever SDK/library you're using, if any.

If you're not using an SDK or library, you can call the HTTP endpoints directly:

https://www.dropbox.com/developers/documentation/http/documentation#files-upload

Hi Gregory

Thats what I suspected, have you thought about this... if I am running a DropBox service on the cloud, and want to append say a 1k text update from a Logging activity or a twitter update, your suggestion is that I download a 50Mb file, add 1kb and then upload a 50.001Mb file

I think you would find a lot of people would shake your hand if you implemented a APPEND feature, we are not the only guys and gals who want to do this increment and GoogleDrive now does to great effect, and even Microsoft DOS 3.0 supported it so you would be in good company.

PS my cloud credits burn off quickly if we use the current system, would love it if you adopt this APPEND
