Hi,

Would it be possible to clarify something for me please. I'm currently work with API v1. I understand that it's being deprecated next year. But I still some outstanding issues with v2 (posted a separate question for this)

When you sign up for a Dropbox for Business account by default you have a team folder placed in the root of your dropbox. If my team is called 'My Company' the group name is called 'Everyone at My Company' any other Team folders I create they get the same group applied.

Can a Team folder have a 'owner'. I could be incorrect but I was sure newly created 'Team Folders' would have the 'Team Admin' user as the owner.

Thanks

Team folders are owned by the team itself. Only admins can edit membership settings.

Using the API, you can get the information for the team that owns a team folder in the SharedFolderMetadata, for example, as returned by /2/sharing/get_folder_metadata, in the "owner_team" field.

No, API v1 doesn't return the same team information. You can use API v1 and API v2 at the same time though.

Hi Greg,
I've been looking at the documentation here (https://www.dropbox.com/en/help/986) this could be out of date. Its a bit conflicting unless I'm missing something. It refers to the Team admin being the owner. But as you say they are not its owned by the admin but the team.

In the screen shot further down the page it gives a diagram of a folder structure under 'It is not possible to share a Dropbox link to a team folder.'

This looks to be incorrect going on what I can do in the UI.

Team Folder
-> Shared Folder (Sally)
--> Sub Shared Folder (Sally) (in the ui I can not share this folder again as it already resides in a shared folder)

Apologies that the help article is unclear. The terminology here is a bit overloaded, but while a team folder is considered to belong to the team itself, only admins can manage them. This is what I was referring to when I said "Only admins can edit membership settings.". Note that a team may have multiple admins, and any admin can make those changes.

Anyway, regarding the note about the links, that is accurate based on what I see in the UI. That is, I don't have the option to create a shared link for the team folder itself via dropbox.com. It sounds like you're referring to a different feature (shared folders).

In any case, this is a bit outside the scope of API support, and I'm not the best person to ask about Dropbox for Business functionality itself. If you need help with the Dropbox for Business product itself, you can contact Business support here: https://www.dropbox.com/support
