Thanks Rich but unfortunately this doesn't work. I can export them in whatsapp, firefox, airdroid or even in translator but not in sheets

Edit:
I've just found that this is G-Sheets fault, not Dropbox. It seems to be a years-old choice of Big G's devs, but I've faced it only now.
Thanks everybody for your help and sorry if I posted in the wrong forum.

Hi,

last week, on my old Nexus 5 (Android 6) I was able to edit my xlsx files with Google Sheets and save them in the cloud.

Today, on a Mi A1 (Android 7), it seems I can only edit them with Microsoft Excel, while alternatives like Google Sheets, LibreOffice, PolarisOffice or similar open my files in readonly mode.

Do I have to give some extra Dropbox-access permission to Google Sheets or integrate them in some way?

Thank you,

Roberto

Dropbox itself doesnt have any links to Google Sheets so it sounds like something has been set up / configured on the Nexus that allows things to go back and forwards to Dropbox (an older version maybe?) that isnt on the Android 7

Mark, thanks for your reply.

I keep all my apps always updated but I don't even know if the last version of Dropbox on Android 7 is the same than on Android 6.

The only difference I could spot is that on my old phone there is an 'Open with..' option when a file is selected.

Indeed, the first time I used MS Excel on a Dropbox file on the new phone, I had to give it the permission to write on the Dropbox directory, while other apps didn't ask (nor G-Sheets nor the other ones I tried).Well, I think I'll get used to it. Thanks again!

You likely have an Export option. Tap that and see if you have Open with as an option. That's where it appears now in iOS.

If that's the case, there is still a small workaround (note that I admittedly haven’t tested it out here…)

You can export the file from the Dropbox to your local storage, SD card, wherever you want so long as you remember where it was!

Open the file, and depending on your Android settings, you should be able to choose the app you want to open it with. Hopefully Sheets should appear in that list.
