I am having no end of trouble trying to figure out the best way to coordinate between different email addresses. I have clients who add me to their dropbox using my current work email, that is not connecting to my personal login. I know of the "link" option, but when I go to it in my settings I get a 404 error. Then, I have a third dropbox connected with my former work--the employer removed all sensitive files but I still need to have access to items that other people shared with me via that email address, and I am authorized to access the account. I use dropbox for everything and had migrated my desktop to the cloud, but now when I changed jobs everything is broken. Is there any way to not have to be constantly logging in and out of multiple accounts--especially when I have it set to auto-sync my desktop with all current-working files, it gets very confused when I have to switch accounts. Help!

This request is a bit vague to me, but maybe I can help. If you have one computer with three users, then only one person can use the computer and Revit files at one time. Unless other computers are working concurrently, then no two users will be writing to the fileset at the same time. While I have limited experience with Revit, I have used SolidWorks for 21 years. SolidWorks will always look in the local directory first when looking for file references. This is helpful when opening assemblies across shared dropbox folders. It works very well. The problem is with linked library files, but these can be linked to external locations.

I see two opposing requests here.

1. You need three separate dropbox accounts to see (use) a single folder on the same computer (on your C: drive). While I have done this, it is a bit unstable and I wouldn't recommend it. Don't point separate dropbox accounts to the same Dropbox folder. Use a shared folder across the three dropbox accounts. This works for SolidWorks as long as two users don't overlap a write to the same file. Even without using a vault, SolidWorks will allow files to be locked or released.

2. You need a common drive letter for Revit's data folder. I assume each user has a unique Windows login. It's possible to MAP a drive letter to a folder. Consider setting the Revit folder to something like M: instead of C:. Then have each user map the folder address to M:. Each should be unique and Rev-It shouldn't see the difference.

Wildcard:

3. Use an external sync program like Goodsync to scan a folder for changes and mirror those changes to another folder. This can be single or bidirectional mirroring. I've used this with multiple dropbox accounts to sync files across multiple servers. It seems duplicitous but works very well. Goodsync would scan for changes and make it all work. Crazy, but solid.

Best of luck.

Hey @PaulFay, thanks for joining our Community.

I understand it can be difficult to use the Dropbox desktop app with multiple Dropbox accounts.

However, the only way to have two Dropbox accounts on the same computer, without having to log out and back in, is if one of your accounts is a Dropbox Business one.

Currently, one Dropbox Business and one individual (Basic, Plus or Professional) account can be linked together on the Dropbox app.

A workaround would be to install Dropbox and sign in to the second account on a different user account on the computer.

Let me know if you have any questions.

If you have a Dropbox Business account, you're able to link a Business account with one personal account and then sync them both to your computer. Otherwise, it's only possible to sync one account to your computer. You can use the Dropbox website to access the other accounts.

The simplest way to do it is to create shared folders to the main account you want to keep: www.dropbox.com/share

Unless the account you are accessing is a paid for business account you can only have 1 Dropbox account on a device at a time. If it is you can link them together

So, if it isnt, you either need to remove your personal one or just use the website to access your work one.

Hi @DTPM, how are you today?

I merged your post under this thread, since others had expressed the same inquiry, and I want to keep everything at the same place.

At the moment, you can have one Business account and one individual linked to your Dropbox app, as Hannah mentioned here.

All you'd need to do is pair the accounts together.

I hope this helps!

Hi @DTPM,

I hope you are well today. I see you have asked about linking a personal Dropbox account with a company's Dropbox account. Provided the company's account you are linking to is on a Dropbox Business plan, linking your personal account is a pretty simple process and can be done by following the link my colleague has previously shared with you. I just wanted to follow up with you today to see if you had managed to get your account linked, or if you were still in need of some assistance?

Thanks again, and have a great day!
