If you never used the former account and it's been idle for more than a year, it was likely deleted due to inactivity. Have you tried to change the email address on your active account to that of your former account? It should work if the former account no longer exists.

If the former account does still exist, you'll need to sign in to that account and either delete the account or change the email address to something else. That would free up the original email to be used on another account.

I have a complicated problem made worse by Dropbox's idiotic AI system. Many years ago, I accidently created two dropbox accounts, one for [removed] and one for [removed]. The former I never used. Because I am now retired, my email account [removed] no longer functions as an email. I need to abolish the [removed] account and change the [removed] dropbox account that U am paying for to [removed]. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks. I still have my old company computed and I will see about transfering from it to the new computer manually. Even if that works, I will try your ideas too as a needed permanent fix.
