Ahh... I figured it out when you gave me the tip to look at the files saved in Dropbox on my hard drive. I was able to left click on one of the folders and select "view in Dropbox". This automatically opened up my online account. It was associated with an older email address that I don't use anymore but that I still have access to. Thanks!

Hi--

Has anyone "lost" their online account and when they tried to sign in with the email they thought was associated with the account they actually created a new basic account instead? I tried using both of my email addresses (work and personal) to login, but when I did (and reset my forgotten password), it created a new account instead of pulling up my existing subscription. All of my dropbox files are saved locally on my hard drive so nothing is lost, but when I go to login online, nothing is there and its a new account.

Is there anyway to recover an old account? I almost never go to the online account and keep everything saved locally, assuming it was syncing. I looks like it synced.

I got a new computer and need to migrate my dropbox files. I assumed I could login online from the new device, but it looks like I have lost track of my actual account with Dropbox. I appreciate everyone's thoughts on this issue!

Hi @NewDeviceUser, welcome to the Community.

How long ago did you log in to your Dropbox account online, and you were able to access all of your files?

Is there any chance that, while trying to sign back in, you made a typo in your email address and created a new Dropbox account, or that your previous Dropbox account had a typo in the email instead?

Since you mention you have the desktop app installed and it’s syncing to your account, I’d like you to follow these steps on your app and compare the email address you see there with the email address showing here. After that, you can sign in to your Dropbox account online with the same email address you see on the app.

Otherwise, if you were previously on a paid plan, and you’ve received a 12-digit transaction ID with your latest Dropbox charges, you can insert it here and it’ll show you the exact email address of your Dropbox account.

Let me know what you find!
