If you are connected to the computer you just need to go in to preferences of Dropbox and unlink (go to preferences, account and click on 'Sign Out').

Then I'd suggest moving all folders out of Dropbox if you dont want them on your new account and reinstalling from www.dropbox.com/downloading. Once you reinstall log in with the right email and it'll work

I tried to download the app on a MacBook Pro but it is telling me the device is linked to a really old Dropbox and email that would have been deleted for inactivity as hasn’t been used since about 2019. The email is certainly not accessible and Dropbox wasn’t still downloaded either.

I tried download the app from my logged in current and paid for Dropbox on the web but no luck.

Am I stuck just using Dropbox on the web or is there a way I can get round this? The number of posts where a Dropbox is “lost” if you can’t access an email to get the security code and Dropbox themselves have no recovery process even if you can prove your identity is quite scary!

Any advice welcomed!

Hi Mark,

Dropbox was no longer installed on there and when I tried to download the app it said the set-up files are stored in the wrong place and I need to move them and the device is connected to the old email. I've tried to search for files but I don't have any dropbox files anywhere on the computer from when I used it years ago with that email.

I can quite happily use Dropbox from the web, I just thought it would be easier to have the same way of working as my desktop and iPad.

Thanks Pippa

It sounds like its not uninstalled correctly. Try doing: https://help.dropbox.com/installs/advanced-reinstall
