Deleted files but it still says I have no space

New member | Level 1

I permanently deleted some folders but Drop Box still says I have no space available. I cleaned my browser history and re-started my computer and still no luck.

Deleted folder do not use quota. So you need to delete files that were not already deleted.

Um.... I DID delete files permanently. Then I cleared the cache but there is ZERO impact to my available space.

But you've missed the point - as soon as they are deleted. You get your space back.

Permanent deletion and clearing your cache MAKES ZERO difference to your quota.

OK - so if deleting folders did not change my "used space" at all, no matter how many folders I deleted. what does that mean? I am not being obtuse intentionally, it is just not showing my "used space" as being any less despite the fact that I deleted more files.

@Mark Mc: Thanks for your responses.

I don't understand what you mean, though.

If I delete a folder, don't the files in the folder get deleted, too?

If I delete the folder and files therein, shouldn't the amount of used space decrease?

What may be happening is that if you are in a shared folder than as you delete files the shared folder is quickly eating up the space again.

Another thing to try is a reboot of Dropbox

The folder I'm trying to delete isn't a shared folder.

Based on your responses, I did check and found that the files in the folder are all gone, so that's progress. However, like Kim K.'s situation, my used space didn't decrease, despite not having those files anymore.

Also, when I delete the folder, it disappears as expected. If I refresh the page, it reappears. Is that expected behavior?

OK so are there instructions for how to "reboot" Dropbox?
