Why does my Dropbox folder take up space on my computer?

New member | Level 2

Why does dropbox occupy space on my hard disk? I thought the whole point of dropbox was that you could free up your hard disk...Is there something I can do to access dropbox locally, sync files and yet not run out of space on my laptop? Thanks.

No. Sorry you've totally misunderstood what Dropbox is @cjs1.

Dropbox is a syncing tool. It is designed, intended and supposed to have all files on the computer locally unless you tell Dropbox otherwise.

Depending upon your plan you may be able to use Smart Sync, or, all plans can use Selective Sync.
