Will transferring ownership of a shared folder remove it's storage on my account?

Level 2

Changing folder ownership.

From a Dropbox storage perspective I am looking to relocate a shared folder to a different account as it has more space. One approach is to create the folder on the new account and re-share with everyone and migrate content and delete old.

Does changing folder ownership accomplish the same thing? while what I have seen talks about the managing of the folder I cant see anything that talks about undelying storage. The obvious answer is that it does but hope someone can confirm. Thanks

Re: Folder Ownership Storage

Hey there @njenkins,
For what I understand you want to accomplish, you can indeed simply share the folder with the 2nd account with more space, and then transfer ownership to the that account. This would be the easiest method to “migrate” the data over to your other account.
However, in terms of the space the folder takes in your account, you will need to remove the folder from your original account for it to no longer take any space. A shared folder will take space in your account regardless of whether you are the owner or just a member.
Hope this helps to clarify the matter - Cheers!
