Better UI for Dropbox Passwords

Better UI for Dropbox Passwords

Danziger
Explorer | Level 4

The current Dropbox Passwords UI is quite cumbersome, here are some suggestions to improve it:

  • The current mechanic of clicking "Edit", editing data, and then clicking "Save" is quite slow and unintuitive, particularly because when switching between read only and edit mode, the whole layout and the position of the different fields changes completely. It would be more intuitive and way faster to use to have a single editable form with a "Save" button that only becomes enabled when something has changed. You can also mark the edited (but not yet saved) fields with a small circle with a tooltip.
  • A very small number of sites seem to show an icon. It would be good to use a service such as DuckDuckGo's to get Favicons, even if the quality is not very good, at least until Dropbox can implement a better alternative that retrieves high resolution or SVG icons: https://icons.duckduckgo.com/ip3/www.dropbox.com.ico
  • Option to manually pick the background color of the icon box.
  • Based on the site URL, the site title and icon should be pre-filled.
  • Add tags to each account. Once a tag has been added for the first time, it should be offered as an autocomplete option the next time the user is trying to add tags to a different account.
  • Copy email, copy password, edit and autofill should be directly accessible from the passwords list without any additional clicks to open the contextual menu (just hover to show the options).
  • Add both username and email to saved passwords and indicate which one is used for authentication.
  • Add both a Website URL and a Website Login Page URL.
  • Allow folders / categories, even if an account can only be in one at a time.
  • Add option to configure the default password generation options.
