I have just the same problem. 

I wonder if there was any solution to this?

Setting up computer backup does not work!

I have read and tried all tricks from the document “How to use computer backup”, including moving Dropbox and other folders around, restarting, uninstalling and installing Dropbox, you name it.

I found a few discussions here with similar problems, but it is impossible to see if they got any solutions, if any.

What I need now is a Dropbox program that works.

May I ask what version of the desktop app you're using? 

You can hover over your little Dropbox icon, in order to check.
