Hello, I am having the same issue, has anyone figured it out yet? Latest version of windows, just installed Dropbox, even tried disabling my antivirus (Avast), still stuck at the "Setting up..." page

Hi @tzikis, let's jump right into this! 

How long is the app in the setting state?

If you could also hover over your little Dropbox icon, and let me know the version of the app that you have installed there, that'd be great.

Thank you Megan,

it was taking too long, so I left it overnight after leaving the office, to no avail.

 

I've left the office for today again, so I can't check the Dropbox version, but I downloaded and installed it on that computer yesterday, so I'd guess it's the latest one

Hey @tzikis, sorry to jump in here, but, apart from the app's version, could you send us a screenshot of the app's status as shown in the affected computer's system tray when you get the chance?

I understand you may need to get back to the office for this, so please take your time.

FWIW, i tried again today and I still get hang up on "Setting up..."

 

I've tried with my antivirus disabled, nothing. Also tried every folder separately in case one of them was the issue, still nothing.

 

I've even tried looking into file permissions, though I don't see anything strange there as far as i can tell

Is there any chance these folders are accessed/backed up by another program perhaps?

I don't think so

 

Having said that, I used to have Dropbox installed in this computer, which I removed about a year ago as part of a data cleanup, because I borrowed it to a friend. I got it back recently and moved it to my office.

 

So the full answer would be no, unless the previous dropbox installation mangled something up?

Hmm, I see. 

 

Can you clarify if these folders (Desktop, Documents etc) are currently placed in their original location or if they were moved to another place on your computer at some point? 

 

If you haven’t changed their location, I’d like you to reinstall the desktop app on your device and let me know if the same issue persists after that.

I haven't changed their location, and as far as I can see they are in their original location

 

I only mentioned the previous installation of Dropbox because if I understand correctly, Dropbox changes them when you set up pc backup. However, having said that, I don't think I had set up pc backup previously.

 

I can try to reinstall the app when I'm back at the office again, next week
