A recent update to Dropbox for Windows added the ability to sync a volume when it is inserted into the PC.
This is super annoying for a person with a stack of SSDs to erase. Even when "no, don't ask again" is checked, it continues to ask for each new volume it sees. Worse yet, it leaves a binary file ".dropbox.device" on the drive even though one asks it not to do anything. Could the contents of this file be traced back to the computer that wrote it (or even the Dropbox account that unknowingly created it?)
How do we disable this annoying new "feature"?

You're saying "don't ask again" for that device, not the entire feature. You need to disable it in Dropbox Preferences.

That's how Dropbox knows whether or not to ask again the next time that device is inserted.
Troubling, but v124.4.4912 didn't have that option:
so I just re-downloaded the DropboxInstaller, and it congratulates me for upgrading to 124.4.4912, so I think I already had the latest, but no option to disable the Beta feature.
I'm having the same problem. Every time I plug in a USB stick, I get the dialog asking to backup. I keep saying no and Dropbox keeps asking again and again... even for the same stick that I already told it no to.
I'm using version 140.4.1952 and there is no option under "Backups" to disable this.
Has anyone found a solution yet? Or is it time for me to find another cloud service?
Thanks!

I ignored the problem, but can confirm that version 140.4.1951 does in fact show the checkbox illustrated below
